What is a Bit?
A bit is the smallest unit of digital information and the fundamental basis of all computing and technology. Just as the atom is to life in general, the bit is to the digital world.
In all the technology we have today, the bit is the foundation; in other words, everything starts with 0 or 1 until we have entire ecosystems.
Definition and Physical Representation
A bit is specifically a binary digit represented by 0 or 1. Although it is not necessary to go deeply into the world of physics or hardware, physically they are represented by electric charges. In digital electronics, this representation is widely used as follows:
- 0 represents off.
- 1 represents on.
